In the decades following the First World War, photography was the central medium of the age. “Anyone who fails to understand photography”, said the Hungarian artist and photographer Lazlo Moholy-Nagy, “will be one of the illiterates of the future”. Ep 4 - Paper Movies
The American photographer Garry Winogrand said that he took photographs to “see what the world looked like photographed”. Photographers have always had this as their mission statement, but the three decades from the late 1950’s onwards was the real golden age of the photographic journey. The Genius of Photography – Paper Movies relives the journeys that produced some of the most acclaimed paper movies. The programme takes a fascinating look at Robert Frank’s odyssey through 50s America, William Klein’s one-man assault on the sidewalks of New York, Garry Winogrand’s charting of the human comedy in Central Park Zoo, Tony Ray Jones’s dissection eccentricity at the English seaside, and finally, William Eggleston’s guide to Memphis and the American South. Episode four of the series also examines the arrival of colour as a credible medium for serious photographers, as controversial at the time as Dylan going electric.
Contributors include legendary photographers like William Klein, William Eggleston, Robert Adams, Stephen Shore, Joel Sternfeld, Joel Meyerowitz, Martin Parr and artist Ed Ruscha.

The chronological heartland of the programme is the me decades of the 1970’s and the 1980’s. Ep 6 - Snap Judgements
The final programme, The Genius of Photography - Snap Judgements, asks what a photograph is worth these days. One answer is $2.9m, the record-breaking price achieved by an Edward Steichen print auctioned at Sotheby’s in February 2006. The other answer is around 1/29th billionth of that figure based on the calculation that some 29 billion photographs will be taken in 2006 by phone cameras alone. Photography has never been so valuable and so ubiquitous. From America to China and on to Africa, the programme examines how the business of being a photographer has been changed by the market’s sudden interest in what was once the poor relation of the art world.
The series culminates in an examination of the impact of the digital post-production techniques that make anything possible, and looks at the rediscovery of techniques which are taking photography back to the 19th century.
With contributions from Jeff Wall, Andreas Gursky, Gregory Crewdson and one of China’s leading photographer Wang Qingsong.

Ok, so why would someone post old games programmes..
Well there's a few reasons. Firstly, maybe you're looking for one of those games made before originality disappeared completely (Portal, Darwinia and Multiwinia not withsanding) or you're looking for a bit of inspiration for your next game download and you want something you know you'll like. The bottom line is this program showed me a good few games I hadn't seen before and all I could think was "how the hell did I miss that?"
Secondly, it's well made. They don't just get Violet to hold a PS2 in the air saying "Wicked wicked wicked", they bother to vary their coverage from just the standard reviews. They dont just bang on about FPSs the whole time either, they show you games you'd never think of reading about which can sometimes lead you to a decent find. It's quite well written, prolly by Violet herself - sometimes funny and always fun.
Thirdly, Violet. I mean, come on.. she's cute, got that cute little lisp and those babylons are awesome. (Sorry ladies) True, a few more cleavage revealing outfits would be better but maybe that's something that can be fixed in Gamepad 5. Which brings me to the real reason I'm posting...
If you watch this, you like it, it's format, the perspective they have to gaming and yes - even Violet and the twins then give Bravo a quick email asking them to make it again rather than the crappy games programs they make now. If enough people send em a mail they might contact Whizzbang tv with an offer. It doesnt have to be long - hell even "Bring back Gamepad" would probably be enough lol. Even if Violet doesnt want to present it she could write it and they could get another pretty big bosomed lady to present.. I don't care - just not the crap they have now!
Thanks for viewing (and hopefully reading), I have got quite a few people to mail them already, with the people who like the show here mailing they'll prolly cave in

The Fixer
As crime ravages Britain with daily news of shootings, gangs out of control and rumours of corruption within the establishment and the police seemingly losing the battle, who can bring order?
John Mercer is a former member of the Special Forces serving a double life sentence. He is released from prison unexpectedly early and introduced to the shadowy Kenny Jameson, a police officer retired on grounds of ill health.
Mercer realises his newfound freedom comes at a price. Jameson pulls together an unofficial operation with a single brief -- to remove untouchable criminals from society.
Mercer must use the skills he learned in the Special Forces to execute a series of discreet hits.
To help him complete each mission, Mercer is introduced to his new colleagues who include Calum McKenzie, a petty thief whose main interests are girls, drugs and music.
Things are complicated by the final member of Jameson’s group -- the sharp tongued but seductive Rose, an ex-copper forced out of the police by scandal, she has always used her sexuality as her primary weapon and is more than a match for Mercer.
The gang operates outside the parameters of the law and is at odds with the world but when it comes to fulfilling its mission it is lethally effective.

Lenny Douglas – Peter Mullan
Lenny is as hard as nails and married to his work. His relationship with Mercer is based on blackmail, mistrust and violence. His job is to ensure Mercer does what he’s told and despite the mutual loathing there is respect between them.
Rose Chamberlain – Tamzin Outhwaite
The ex-police officer was used a s honey trap to ensnare criminals but something went badly wrong. Her relationship with Lenny is a strange one, they clearly have a ‘past’ and he is still attracted to her. She seduces Mercer to trap him but he slowly makes her question her feeling for him and Lenny.
Calum McKenzie – Jody Latham
Calum is constantly told to shut up and dismissed as stupid and irritating by his cerebral housemate, John. But there is more to Calum than slamming tunes, women and thieving. Not quite as simple as he first appears, he is neither as hardened or worldly wise as he’d like others to believe.
Jess Mercer – Liz White
When John and Jess’s parents died in a car crash she was sent to live with her uncle and aunt. John went to a foster home. She suffered years of abuse and John took revenge. Jess has two kids and they're the focus of her life. Lenny exploits her relationship with John for his own ends.

Cracker - Season Three - Episodes 6 & 7
Cracker is a British police/crime show but with a twist. The lead character, Fitz (or Dr. Edward ‘Fitz’ Fitzgerald) is a criminal psychologist that is hired by the Manchester police as a consultant. Fitz is a brilliant psychologist but as a man he has many vices (gambling, drinking, etc), has a somewhat failing marriage, and has a rather lazy son (and a young daughter whose character is not yet fixed). Fitz (Robbie Coltrane) mostly works with DS Penhaligon (Geraldine Somerville), a young up-and-coming female detective, and sometimes with DS Jimmy Beck (Lorcan Cranitch), a detective of the old school methods.

The story:
Following the attacks of September 11th, a small group of grieving families
waged a tenacious battle against those who sought to bury the truth about the

six of them, including three of the famous "Jersey Girls", tell for the first
time the powerful story of how they took on the greatest powers in Washington —
- and won! — compelling an investigation, only to subsequently watch the 9/11
Commission fail in answering most of their questions.
Adapting Paul Thompson's definitive Complete 9/11 Timeline (published by
HarperCollins as 'The Terror Timeline'), the filmmakers collaborate with
documentary veterans Globalvision ('WMD: Weapons of Mass Deception', 'Beyond
JFK') to stitch together rare overlooked news clips, buried stories, and
government press conferences, revealing a pattern of official lies, deception
and spin. As a result, a very different picture of 9/11 emerges, one that
raises new and more pressing questions.
What actions were taken by top government officials who received dozens of
specific warnings before the attack? Was Osama Bin Laden and his top al Qaeda
leadership allowed to escape U.S. forces in Afghanistan? And what has been the
reason for the deliberate obscuring of evidence for state sponsorship? Perhaps
the most important one of all: Why, five years later, are so many of the
families' questions still unanswered?
